Guess the car. Disclaimer: the driver walked out of the hospital the same day, so no serious injuries.

Hint: it’s a type of car that’s favoured by older people (here). It’s rather new. There’s a rather strong clue in the second picture.

Its a Kadjar (on second thought captur?). Plus we really need to stop complaining about fat A pillars and heavy safety gear. 20 or even 10 years ago that person wouldnt be surviving that.

It was (originally) about 1.5 times as long as an iQ. It’s a compact/mid size crossover.

Holy fucking shit that looks terrifying. I really feel uncomfortable when a truck is behind me in slow traffic on the autobahn. Ugh

Renault Kadjar

yea, that guess was at first glance, as I started looking more I realized that car was much longer at one point. I actually turned the back end of a Dodge Intrepid into something simular to that.

Until I saw the emblem in photo 2, I was convinced Nissan Leaf. That’s one crumpled crossover.

Renault. Something larger than a Megane because 5-lug wheels.

He was quite lucky, it even looks like the door opened without a spreader, since I’m not seeing any damage to the door. Had he had passengers it would have been a whole different story though.

This again shows why I prefer to not be between the trucks in a traffic jam.

I tried looking through those two though, door handles don’t match up.

EDIT: You’re right, it is a Kadjar. The handles do match up and so does the tail lamp shape.

About the same size  to smaller than a Megane, depending on which Megane body style you pick (shorter wheelbase than the Megane). It does look larger/more plumb. It’s a Kadjar crossover.

Megane has 5 lug wheels as well nowadays.

Kadjar. Look at the number of lug nuts (5). Captur has 4.

Now I wonder if the Rogue on the same platform would handle the crash that well too.

You can actually make out the Kadjar lettering in the second picture... barely. Amazing that anyone would walk away from that, you’re right.

I’ve never complained about the safety gear in a car.

Nope, still gonna keep complaining about fat A-pillars.

It’s possible to design a strong A-pillar that isn’t fat (or at least is angled so where it’s fat, it isn’t obstructing your vision badly), and then you’re less likely to get into a crash in the first place.

Better options can be engineered but youll have penalties in at least a couple of these areas; cost, weight and aesthetics.
